1. ORGANIC AND RECYCLED MATERIALS

All ROOTS.ECO products are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton. By doing without harmful substances, organic cotton can unfold its positive properties for human skin.

Cotton is one of the most important raw materials for textiles, but cotton cultivation is one of the biggest environmental destroyers worldwide. Conventionally grown cotton requires vast amounts of water and a variety of chemical additives, pollutes soil and groundwater, and causes serious health problems for cotton farmers. Since residues of these chemicals are found in the textiles, allergic reactions of the skin and skin diseases are provoked, particularly sensitive skin such as that of babies reacts irritated and irritated.

In contrast, controlled organic cotton cultivation (kbA) prohibits the use of chemicals such as pesticides and defoliants for mechanical harvesting. Organic cotton is picked by hand! In addition, the use of genetically modified cotton is prohibited.

Organically grown cotton is temperature-regulating and skin-friendly, sensitive skin is protected and not irritated by chemicals, many allergic reactions and skin diseases such as neurodermatitis in babies and small children are reduced or disappear entirely.

When it comes to the performance and functionality of textiles, synthetic fibers play an important role for a wide range of purposes (e.g. sports) due to their durability, stretchability and ability to store or release heat. We prefer GRS-certified, recycled materials that, in contrast to energy-intensive, newly produced materials, are resource-saving and energy-saving and produce fewer CO² emissions.

2. NO HARMFUL CHEMICALS

Our cotton is allergy tested and - according to the GOTS guidelines - free of heavy metals, optical brighteners and chlorine bleach. In addition, there is a list of banned chemicals that could harm the environment and the health of textile farmers and wearers.

Accessories such as buttons or zips are mostly made of natural materials, the buttons are made of wood and the zips are made of nickel-free material.

In accordance with the GOTS guidelines, the end products are randomly tested by the Bremen Environmental Institute.

Thanks to our close, lifelong connections with these suppliers, we shorten the distances between supplier and carrier: in and can therefore guarantee a safe and ethically responsible supply chain.

All steps of the production process, packaging, labeling and shipping are monitored and controlled by GOTS, according to strict ecological and social criteria.

In accordance with the GOTS guidelines, the end products are randomly tested by the Bremen Environmental Institute.

The social criteria are as follows:

4. TIMELESS DESIGNS, LONG-LASTING PRODUCTS

For our textiles, we attach particular importance to longevity, durability, functionality and safe wearing comfort. We prefer timeless design and high-quality fabrics and workmanship.

Our fashion is not fast-moving! We don't need new cuts and colors every season. We don't follow the rapidly changing, seasonal fashion trends of the fast fashion industry.

It is important to us to produce textiles that are not thrown away after a season, but to create timeless, sustainable and stylish fashion that is environmentally friendly and harmless to health at the same time.

The transport of goods is an important factor in the overall environmental impact. For this reason, we try to act as environmentally friendly as possible in this area as well. The entire production process of ROOTS.ECO textiles from the raw material to the finished garment takes place in a relatively small limited area of Turkey.

The finished products are transported to our warehouse in Bremen by ship or train. This is how we avoid unnecessary CO² emissions during transport. We also use the climate-neutral services of the freight forwarders DHL Go Green and DPD.

We try to reduce our packaging to the absolutely necessary minimum in order to conserve resources. We do not use polyester bags for each individual garment, a very convenient and very common way in the fashion industry to transport goods safely and easily, but which is actually unnecessary and a typical example of over-packaging.

The little packaging we use is reusable, recyclable or compostable.

The paper packaging we use (hangtags, boxes) is FSC-certified. This ensures that the materials come from responsible sources and comply with ecological and social standards.

Our entire team is included in our vision of sustainability. All our employees: inside are motivated to behave in an environmentally friendly manner.

All ROOTS.ECO products are vegan. Veganism makes an important contribution to achieving our ecological goals, as groundwater pollution and greenhouse gases resulting from factory farming are reduced. In our family, we have practiced, supported and promoted a vegan lifestyle for a long time, including in the workplace.

We support our team to use alternative, environmentally friendly means of transport for commuting. Since the network of cycle paths is very well developed in our company location in Bremen (“the city of short distances”!), it makes sense to travel to work by bike.

We separate our waste, reduce our use of paper in the office and organize regular training courses to reduce the ecological footprint of our employees: inside the workplace and in everyday life.
